Start time: 7:00am (a 6:00am start is possible by arrangement for marathon runners)

When bad weather caused the closure of the River Trail path north of Silverstream and Trentham Memorial Park, we had to modify our previous out-and-back course. The modified course was two laps of the half marathon course and, although the path has since been repaired, we have decided to keep to the two lap course.

Please note: There is a new ramp leading to the subway under the Waione Street Bridge.

This marathon will be the Wellington Centre marathon championships for 2023.

Course

Start on Marine Parade outside Race HQ and head towards the river. Make a left turn onto Hikoikoi footpath until you reach Waione Street. Turn right on to the footpath and just before the bridge go down the ramp leading to the subway under the Waione Street pipe bridge. Follow the track straight ahead and then right on to the stop bank. Follow the stop-bank (which goes through Shandon golf course) until it reaches Bracken Street. Cross Bracken Street and then follow the path around the edge of Sladden Park.

Go under the Ava Rail Bridge and follow the gravel path straight ahead. Pass under the Ewen Bridge and a little way past the bridge turn around to take the asphalt ramp back up onto Ewen Bridge on the north side. Cross Ewen Bridge turning on to the stopbank heading north. Stay on top of the stopbank until Melling Bridge/Harvey Norman (take care crossing two car park entrance roads). Turn left down the path just before Melling Bridge (where there is a drink stop) and then turn right under Melling Bridge. Follow the river trail (passing under Kennedy Good Bridge). Turn at the half marathon turnaround and follow the river trail back under the Ewen and Ava Rail bridges and back to the Waione Street bridge. Go under the Waione Street bridge on the boardwalk and then turn hard left to cross the Waione Street bridge heading back towards Petone. Follow the footpath and then turn left on to the gravel path (same place you turned on to Waione Street) and follow around the outside of McEwan Park and then on to the park to the finish. Continue past the finish line as the start of your second lap. Cones will take you alongside the Rugby League Clubrooms and then beside the tennis courts onto Marine Parade and then do it all again to the finish.
